So we are finally able to upgrade our PS5 Storage. Modern Playstation games take up so much space that you will need more than a terabyte storage. Such incredible graphics come with a price.
It seems like just yesterday we had consoles with 250MB RAMs and now they run at 16GB RAM with games that take up to 50 to 70GB of storage. This is why is so important to expand you PS5 storage. If you buy 5 games and they each have about 30 to 50GB that’s already about 250GB. Lets not forget the DLC that will take up more and more space in your hard drive.
The old Playstation consoles always had a memory card that you can take with you however, now SONY and other corporation want people to use internal storage (to prevent people from stealing games).
Now with the PS5 you can add up to 4 thousand terabytes to your console with an M.2 SSD. However, you have to be careful what kind of memory you install in your system. The additional memory or M.2 SSD must be compatible with the PS5 console otherwise you will be wasting money.
So before you go on amazon.com looking for an SSD for the PS5, here are the ones suggested by IGN to buy for your PS5.
Once you install it to you PS5, the console will read it and start formatting it for the PS5 games.
To start, make sure that you open the PS5 from the side of the fan. You will need a Phillip screw driver to remove the cover where the SSD card goes.
You might want to buy a heat pad for your SSD to prevent it from over heating.
Ok so if you look at the photo above, you will see the green area. Once you remove the white cover, the green area will show and that is where the SSD will go. If the PS5 already comes with one then remove. Make sure to remove the screws and bolts.
Afterwards, you can go ahead and add the SSD. When you insert it, there will be a clicking sound, signaling that it has been properly install. You may then placed the cover back on the side of the PS5 and turn it on.
After installing the SSD in your PS5, turn it on and you will see this screen. When you see the screen above , it is going to ask you if you want to format your M.2 SSD
Options
Don’t format and turn off PS5
Format M.2 SSD
Make sure to select the option to “format SSD” and continue. That should do it. It will take a few minutes to format your SSD and once it is done, the PS5 will restart (its a really fast console). After that you can start playing and downloading as many games as you want.
