Some people wonder why everyone loves the Mandalorian but so many people seem to hate Disney’s new Star Wars trilogy. Dont get me wrong. At least The Force Awakens was a pretty good movie. It did not exceed the previous films but it was descent and it brought back Han Solo (and then kill Han Solo). Every other Disney Star Wars movie just seems to flop. The Solo movie kind of sucked. They made Solo lose his testosterone for god sakes.
The Last Jedi was so bad that film teachers in college were using to show their students how a bad script looks like. The Rise of Skywalker was bullshit. How can Rey just name herself a Skywalker when she is not related to Luke at all. It was a total disaster. However, among all those disasters one Star War show came to save the day.
The Mandalorian showed that you can serve the fans and still make a new series for the new generation. For some reason Kathleen Kennedy and her chosen group of directors failed to do that. Their excuse, “you can make everyone happy.” Really? The Mandalorian had no problem doing that so… Thank you John Fabreau.
The question, what makes the Mandalorian such a good show that many people love it. There is a little fan service here and there and sure there were a few episode that weren’t so good. However, the overall series had people wanting more while the Disney trilogy had people scratching their heads wondering, “umm, what the f*ck was that?”
I really thought about it and here is what sets it apart from the Disney garbage Star Wars movies.
There Was No Agenda Behind It
To each his own. Say what you will. Your opinion is yours however, there was definitely something wrong with the new trilogy in terms of story. Especially with the Rise of Skywalker. The problem was that Disney was so caught up with making money from Star Wars that they forgot to tell a good story. Many fans will tell you that The Force Awakens was trying to do what A New Hope did. Instead of creating a new story they just decided to rehash what the original movies did.
Call me crazy or a misoginist but there was definitely a feminist agenda behind Star Wars. When you see Kathleen Kennedy promoting the movie with a shirt that says “The Force Is Female,” it shows that she knows nothing about Star Wars. It was just a cash cow and they did not care about the fans. The force is not female. The force is the fantasy element in Star Wars. The fact that they had to add genre to it (and a couple of other things) definitely said something about what they were trying to do.
George Lucas had a script for the Disney Star Wars Trilogy but they decided to go with their own awful idea.
Anyways, the Mandalorian stayed true to the original Star Wars. If you watched Season 2, in the episode with Ahsoka, she says that to master the force it takes great training and dedication. However, that was not true with Rey who was by definition a Mary Sue. Rey knew how to use the force without training which is bullshit.
Luke said, it requires great training to use the force and so did Ahsoka. This is how fans know that the creators did not care about Star Wars or knew nothing about it. This is why the Mandalorian is loved among the newest projects because it is consistent. Also the Mandalorian focused on telling a good story not political agendas.
It Was Constructive Not Deconstructive
The Mandalorian built on the Star Wars universe.
In writing there is what is called contructive and Deconstructive.
What Disney Star Wars did was Deconstruct the story.
Chris Fox said it best in the video above. Hollywood has been using deconstruction a lot since about 2014 or earlier. If you want the fans to continue to love your movies and stories then you dont want to deconstruct. You are only pissing the fans away trying to change the meaning of things.
What the Mandalorian did was build on the Star Wars universe. The director wanted to tell the story of a Mandalorian and their background in the Star Wars Universe. Also Baby Yoda was a plus. The cold blooded mercenary who does nothing but kill, now trying to save a little baby.
So if you want to get into the story telling business then do your self a favor and dont deconstruct. If you want to be successful, it has no place in fiction.
Mandalorian Creators Did Not Attack The Fans
I dont understand why so many companies now adays (in the entertainment business) attack the fans. Comic book artist, movie directors and so on. When ever their movies flop or does not do very well, they blame the fan.
Charlie’s Angel 2019 flopped, guess what, its the fans’ fault for not watching a movie of all female leads.
Fans criticize the Captain Marvel movie, they are misoginist, woman hating fans.
These leaders in the entertainment industry are really bad leaders. The fans are your customers and guess what…the customer is always right.
Imagine you go to Walmart and you buy an eletronic that had a problem. Then you return it and they tell you that its your fault that it had a problem because you dont like their products. That is what that is like.
Its the same in this case. The Mandalorian gave the fans what they wanted. They understood their audience and they serve the audience.
Disney just want to force a certain believe in people and when the fans dont buy into it they start blaming and attacking the fans.
And that is why the Mandalorian is a way better show and continuation for Star Wars.
