So the creator of Naruto Masashi Kishimoto has announced a new manga series. Kishimoto began his creation of Naruto since the 1990’s and since then it has taken the world by storm. Naruto is a world wide success up there with franchises such as Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon.
Kishimoto can sit back and relax with all the money he has made from the Naruto franchise. The guy is sitting on millions of dollars. However, he has decided to come back and create something that could out do Naruto. Which I seriously doubt it. Naruto was such a heart felt story that not only entertained, it reached people’s hearts. Can Mishimoto create something that surpasses his first work. We shall see.
The name of his new manga series is called Samurai 8.
Kishimoto said that he loves Japanese mythology(I mean of course he is Japanese after all). So this next piece of work is going to be based on Japanese folklore and it will have a scifi element to it. Naruto is also based on Japanese culture. For example: Tsunade, Orochimaru and Jiraiya were actually real people in Japanese history. The nine tail fox, and all the ninja hand seals, you get the point.
Samurai 8 will be about well…Samurais. We already know that Samurai 8 will have cyborgs and other mechanical like entities. Will it have space ships, who knows.
We do know that the characters will be young of course to appeal to teenagers and young readers. Some characters will have prosthetic mechanic body parts.
Headbands are back
So it seems that the headbands are back. If you look at the picture above, you will see that the character has a headband just like Naruto. It seems that Kishimoto is subconscious using some styles from Naruto. I mean you cant deny, the headbands are really cool and I guess he decided to use them again. Or maybe they are not headbands. He did say that this series will have a scifi element so the headbands could be digital lenses.
Will it be more violent
Masashi Kishimoto release some pictures of Samurai 8 and I do apologize but they are not on this blog post. However, according to what he release, there are people getting their limbs cut off. So will Samurai 8 be more violent than Naruto. Since some characters will have mechanical body parts he could get away with some brutality. Its going to be based on Samurai’s but don’t expect that it will be like Ruroni Kenshin since that series was more realistic. This new series could take place in a futuristic setting.
Will it be more popular than Naruto
Samurai 8 will still have to compete. Just because its from the creator of Naruto it does not mean that it will be just as popular. Naruto is its own show. Samurai 8 has to compete with My Hero Academia, Black Clover and other shonen manga.
Naruto was an underdog and we all love an underdog and watching him rise to the very top. That is why we like Naruto,(at least in the beginning) Naruto touched our hearts, I mean seriously. From Rock Lee, to Neji and shit we even feel for the bad guys. When Naruto fought Pain and we found out about Pain’s childhood, it was touching. Samurai 8 will have to be about more than just slicing people up if it wants to become popular.
Will it be full of heart like Naruto, will we be able to relate to the characters like we did with Naruto. Will we be able to feel and care for the characters like we did with Naruto.
I say if Kishimoto can write a deep story like he did with Naruto then Samurai 8 will be just as popular. I dont think it will over shadow Naruto but maybe it can reach the same popularity.
