Demon Slayer has defeated Spirited Away as the most popular Anime movie. That is right, Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie has broken records making anime more popular than it ever was in the west.
According to NIkkei Asia, an Asian news outlet, the movie has the potential to make $2 billion and being right up there with the Avengers Movie. The funny thing about this phenomenon is that that Avengers movie in America took about $200 million to make while the Demon Slayer Mugen Train movie, being an anime, only took about $10 – 30 million to make. The return on investment for Demon Slayer movie is absolutely outstanding.
Anime movies really don’t take that much money to make. The movie Your Name (Kimi No Nawa) had a similar budget to Demon Slayer and brought in $375 million to the box office. Demon Slayer brought $456 as of April 2021 (world wide box office).
The Mugen Train movie came in at the right time. The pandemic surely motivated people to get out of the house and go to the theaters. After months and months of being locked up at home people would surely do anything to get out of the house. Japanese theaters were playing the Mugen Train movie 40 times a day (source: Nikkei Asia).
