So Square Enix finally decided to add Kingdom hearts games to the Nintendo Switch console but there is a catch. It is the cloud version. Which means you cant play the game on the Switch unless you have WIFI or some kind of internet connection which defeats the purpose of owning a Nintendo Switch.
People want to play on the go so the Cloud Version of the game defeats the purpose. Apparently the game was far too big to fit into the Nintendo Switch. Kingdom Hearts 3 was already far too big so of course it was expected to have a cloud version for the Switch, however, KH1 and KH2 were PS2 games so people expected the games to be ported on the Switch. With the all the additions that Kingdom hearts has had and the improvement on the graphics, There was just no way it could run on the Nintendo Switch.
The pack of Kingdom hearts 1.5 and 2.5 would have a total size of about 45GB, While the average Nintendo Switch game has about 8 to 15GB of storage size.
So at this point Square Enix is wondering if its even worth it having a cloud version of the game. If they were to port the game for the Nintendo Switch, then that means they would have to shrink the game down and lower its quality switch would be disappointing. Nobody wants that.
It was also a bad idea to sell each game separately so that people can buy them again. The whole kingdom hearts series without including part 3 would be too large of a file so they went with the cloud version of the game however, Nintendolife.com had done a survey asking their followers if they would purchase the cloud version of Kingdom Hearts. Only 9% of people said they would.
Honestly, you are better off just buying the cloud version of kingdom hearts on the Epic Game store. At least there wont be any lag if you have the ethernet cable plugged into your laptop.
Nintendo is really behind on hardware. If they had updated their hardware with the Nintendo Switch OLED this wouldn’t be a problem. Now they have to face new competition from the Steam Deck and the upcoming Alienware UFO handheld gaming PC. Nintendo has a lot to worry about.
The selling point of the Nintendo Switch was its portability however, many tech companies have caught up and have made better mimics of the Nintendo Switch that are capable of running a ps4 level game.
Kingdom Hearts on the Nintendo Switch is a waste of time. Eventually many games will come to the PC on Steam and Epic Game Store and now with handheld computers people will be able to connect directly to the internet.
Nintendo is way behind on Hardware.
